Brief explanation of Course/Seminar

Operational risk involves breakdowns in internal controls, failures of information technology systems, and disruptive events such as floods or fires. Such breakdowns can lead to large financial losses. The purpose of this 2-day course is to show how operational risk can be described, measured, and mitigated. We review several recommended best practices from different organizations (e.g., the Basle Committee on Banking Supervision, the Federal Reserve Bank, the U.S. Department of Defense) and show how operational risk can be measured in terms of reliability, maintainability, and availability. Attendees learn how to develop an operational risk evaluation for their organization. Different course topics can be emphasized depending on the requirements of the attendees.
