The fund normally invests at least 65% of assets in investment-grade California municipal obligations. It may invest the balance in municipal obligations from any state rated below investment grade. The obligations may have fixed or variable rate income. The average dollar-weighted maturity typically ranges between three and 10 years. It may invest in securities subject to the AMT. The fund is nondiversified. Class A shares have front loads; C shares merged into Class A shares on Oct. 30, 1996.
